The Gates of Eternity existed before all, before nothing, before time. It is both one and two, singular and plural, existing and not existing. It is the paradox of creation.
Description[]
In the darkness before existence there was a weakness in what would become the universe. Once every age or so a spark would fall out of this and drift in the nothingness what was. These sparks had no form nor size nor substance, for they merely had the potential to become something. Eventually the gates would draw the spark back in, returning the point of possibility to oblivion.
The Gates are a single point in the universe, but that point has two sides. One is from where those sparks of potentiality, and later matter, flowed and it is called the Gate of Creation. The other side is to where those sparks of potentiality, and later matter, eventually return and it is called the Gate of Destruction.
When the material universe was created, the gate itself changed to reflect its nature, becoming not just a point of potentiality but a swirling vortex of energies as well.

History[]
Before time the gates existed. In time one of the sparks of potentiality that escaped from it was about to return to nothingness when it had the audacity to ask why it should. In asking it became, and so Ebel was born. She reached into the Gate of Creation to produce Velt to tend to the earth. From the Gate of Destruction she pulled a spark that would become Dajjal to rule the winds.
In awe and respect for the gate, the Elemental gods constructed a mountain to shelter it from the rest of the world and secured it fast with the Elemental Barrier.
In time other gods were born by the gate.
Lore[]
The thinking races of the world have countless tales of how the world was made. Some tell of the ancient ones who crafted it from the raw elements. Others tell of the great gods who formed it from their thoughts. Yet in every tongue of every race there is one story that is universal: before the world was created, there were the Gates of Eternity.
